Sweetgreen Celebrates Five Years in Georgetown

The salad and yogurt eatery was started by Georgetown University graduates.

Sweetgreen is celebrating five years in the salad and yogurt business, having expanded from one shop on M Street to 12 in three states and the District. The first location at 3333 M St., NW opened Aug. 1, 2007. Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman, and Nathaniel Ru were still students at Georgetown University when they came up with their winning business concept. In an earlier interview with Patch, Jammet said the three "planned everything throughout our senior year, and the grand opening was two months after we graduated." "We wanted to make a place that we would want to go to eat," he explained. STREET LEVEL: The Gloves are off for Glacee

With the opening of Serendipity 3 at Wisconsin Ave and M Street, let the frosty fight begin!

Serendipity 3 has arrived. It has swooped in from New York City and is occupying prime real estate in Georgetown. They have a lovely young lady greeting customers and explaining a menu that has appetizers, entrees AND ice cream and sweets.  What does that bode for the existing ice cream/yogurt/gelati shops? There is no doubt that Georgetowners loves their frozen treats. On any hot night there is a line out the door at Thomas Sweets and Dolcezza.  Sweet Green and Iceberry are swarming. And there are always faces peering out from Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Daz. Even Dean and DeLucca has gelato in the summer.  But Georgetown really seems to associate frozen treats with sitting outside and watching the crowds go by. The outdoor tables at Thomas …
