Raccoon Bites Man, Rabid Critter Captured Days Later A raccoon bit a man last Saturday near Montrose Park, sending the victim to the hospital. Animal Control was unable to capture the culprit immediately, but on Monday, officers located and captured a rabid raccoon. Several Area Runners Were in Boston for the Marathon Nine runners from Georgetown registered to run in the Boston Marathon, which turned into a week of searching and mourning. Georgetowner Marsha Ralls checked in with Patch. She was safe and had been at mile 22 when the explosion happened. She plans to return to run again next year, "to honor the innocent." Editor's Notebook: $19.5 Million Winning Bid, Murder Defendant Speaks and More

West Heating Plant Auctioned for $19.5 Million The General Service Administration's (GSA) auction of the Georgetown Heating Plant closed earlier this week. The winning bid came in at $19.5 million. The sale will not be final until GSA goes through its post-auction process and it is unclear at this point how long that will take. Read more about the lengthy auction here. All the World is a Stage for Georgetown Murder Defendant Albrecht Muth, who is charged in the murder trial of his late wife, took a few moments this week to speak directly to the court during a pretrial hearing. Muth offered a detailed statement on topics ranging from the Iranian hit on his wife and his ongoing religious fast. He then announced that he would exit "the stage…

Washington Harbour Ice Rink Opens Nov. 19, Grand Opening Dec. 1 After months of anticipation the new ice rink at the Georgetown waterfront will open quietly on Nov. 19, waiting to celebrate with true fanfare Dec. 1. The "Winter on the Water" event from 4 to 7 p.m. complements the Swedish Christmas Bazaar at the neighboring House of Sweden from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the same day. Also check out our photo gallery of the rink's construction over the course of a month. Closures Proposed for Two Ward 2 Schools This week D.C. Public Schools announced a list of 20 schools that could close at the end of the school year, including Garrison Elementary and Francis Stevens Education Campus. After Cable Boxes Irk Neighbors, Comcast Caves Comcast recently installed "small-refrigerator-sized green boxes" on Georgetown's historic street corners for cable and internet service. Friday we learned that Comcast was working with the community to refine the review process for such installations and that several of the undesirable units had been removed. David Grosso Ousts Michael Brown, Two GU Students are Elected Beyond the re-election of President Barack Obama, Tuesday's election brought some changes locally. Sitting Councilman at large Michael Brown lost his seat to Independent challenger David Grosso; Vincent Orange was re-elected as an at large Democrat. Woman Sexually Assaulted on Cherry Hill Lane Police are investigating a reported sexual assault that happened around 4 a.m. Sunday near Grace Street. The woman told police she was on the 3200 block of Cherry Hill Lane, NW when "an unknown male suspect approached her from behind and groped her," according to a press release. Police are looking for a suspect described as a white or Hispanic male, with "dark straight shaggy hair," between approximately 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, with a slim build and dark eyes. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and khaki shorts. Editor's Notebook: Canal Boat Update, Neighborhood Lobbying and Ethiopian Airlines

The Georgetown Canal Boat Won't Be Leaving Until the Fall The Georgetown canal boat will get a stay on its execution and will remain stationed in its dry dock at least until the fall. Though it's not for lack of trying on the part of the National Park Service. Initial estimates for a crane to lift the boat from its location and transport it via truck were all "more than we could justify for a demolition project," said Brian Carlstrom, the deputy superintendent for the NPS's C&O Canal. Instead, this fall several mules will tug the boat out of Georgetown until the path widens enough for trucks to pull it the rest of the way to Fletcher's Cove where it will be dismantled.
