Mall landlords unwilling to confirm DMV's return to Georgetown Park.
Though city leaders have promised that the Department of Motor Vehicles will return to Georgetown, a representative for the Georgetown Park Mall made the agency's seem return a bit less certain. Scott Milsom, speaking for Georgetown Park Mall's landlords Vornado Realty Trust, told the Advisory Neighborhood Commission at a September meeting, that negotiations with the DMV were "ongoing." Milsom said "nothing has been finalized" and that it was his understanding that the DMV would prefer to be near a metro stop. Milsom's comments came as a surprise. The Georgetown DMV branch closed May 19 during mall construction
The Georgetown Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will return to the Georgetown Park Mall once renovations are complete. The Georgetown DMV branch closed May 19 to allow for mall repairs, but at the time its future in the neighborhood was uncertain. Councilman Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) announced that the DMV would return to Georgetown Park during the Citizens Association of Georgetown annual meeting Wednesday. Evans said that Mayor Vincent Gray "has been very supportive" of continuing the DMV operation in Georgetown. Gray said he was "glad" the DMV "will be maintained here in Georgetown." The Department of Motor Vehicles will close May 19 at 4 p.m.
The Georgetown branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles in the Georgetown Park Mall will close Saturday because of construction at the mall. The DMV offices will close at 4 p.m. May 19. The DMV will open a temporary service center at 301 C Street, NW, but not until June 4, two weeks later. The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles's Georgetown Service Center is closed through the end of the day.
The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) Georgetown Service Center will be closed beginning at 1 pm. for the remainder of the day, Tuesday, July 19, due to ongoing problems with the air conditioning system. DMV will accommodate as many customers currently inside as possible, but other customers are encouraged to go online to complete their DMV service needs or visit on another day. DMV plans to reopen the Georgetown Service Center at 8:15 am on Wednesday.

Hi Robyn, I checked with DMV but they do not know yet if they'll be able to re-open in Georgetown or not. I suspect it hinges on what happens with the mall's ability to secure a new big-box type tenant. more ›
