Someone on SeeClickFix has a sense of humor.
An ususual alert popped up on SeeClickFix Tuesday morning—instead of the usual report of a missing sign or out-of-order parking meter, someone posted a "tenant alert." The alert was about Michaels, HomeGoods and Marshalls coming to Georgetown. The alert reads: "As a concerned Georgetown resident, I'm writing to inform you that there is a Michael [sic], Home goods [sic] and Marshals [sic] planned to take up occupancy in this location. Please send a crew out immediately to fix this as this is not only a threat to public safety but an obvious assault to the neighborhood. To think they teased us with an Eatly. Seriously who makes these decisions?" And apparently whomever checks SeeClickFix for DC's 311 department either did not notice the …

DSW, the Designer Shoe Warehouse, is all but signed on for the Georgetown Park Mall
DSW, a discount shoe store, will add yet another location in the District of Columbia if it finalizes a deal to come to the Georgetown Park Mall. Scott Milsom of Vornado Realty Trust presented plans to the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) for new signage at the Georgetown Park Mall, which is currently undergoing an intensive renovation. Milsom has previously called their efforts "de-malling the mall." In presenting the design scheme for the signs at the new entrance to the mall near Dean & DeLuca, Milsom listed DSW as one of the tenants. ANC Comissioner Peter Prindiville ask Milsom if DSW was confirmed for the mall. "We are very far along in discussions with them," Milsom said. The Georgetown location would join two others…

Mall landlords unwilling to confirm DMV's return to Georgetown Park.
Though city leaders have promised that the Department of Motor Vehicles will return to Georgetown, a representative for the Georgetown Park Mall made the agency's seem return a bit less certain. Scott Milsom, speaking for Georgetown Park Mall's landlords Vornado Realty Trust, told the Advisory Neighborhood Commission at a September meeting, that negotiations with the DMV were "ongoing." Milsom said "nothing has been finalized" and that it was his understanding that the DMV would prefer to be near a metro stop. Milsom's comments came as a surprise. At the Citizens Association of Georgetown annual meeting in May, Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans told the community that the DMV would return to Georgetown Park. Evans said that Mayor Vincent Gray "…

HomeGoods, a suburban staple, has several urban locations across the county.
A Georgetowner on a trip to Chicago, IL gives us a glimpse of the Georgetown Park Mall's future: photos of a downtown HomeGoods store. HomeGoods is one of the likely tenants at the Georgetown mall once its renovation is complete. The discount home fashions retailer will potentially join the retail scene with T.J. Maxx and Michael's Craft store. At a September community meeting a representative for the developers, Vornado Realty Trust, said they hope to be "substantially complete with construction" within the next 10 months to a year. When the names of possible tenants were leaked Georgetown Patch readers were not very excited. One reader commented, "One of the more valuable pieces of real estate available in the city and they are filling …

The mall owners are looking for two restaurants to also take up space in the renovated property.
The first all-but-confirmed tenants for the Georgetown Park Mall will be T.J. Maxx and Home Goods according to a Vornado Realty Trust flyer requesting restaurant tenants that was obtained by local blog The Georgetown Metropolitan. The flyer shows two restaurant locations available along the Canal side of the Georgetown mall property and lists space as assigned to Home Goods/T.J. Maxx. Georgetown Metropolitan (GM) also reports that Michaels Craft store is another tenant. The mall is closed for renovations, with the exception of those stores that front on M Street and the Washington Sports Club. The proposed two restaurant spaces are at opposite entrances of the mall. One will sit on the western end of the property near Dean & Deluca and to …

As mall undergoes interior demolition and construction, only a handful of tenants remain.
If you ever had a favorite business or store in the Georgetown Park Mall, odds are it has closed and/or moved elsewhere. With the exception of a handful of shops and restaurants with M Street entrances like Banana Republic and JCrew, the mall at 3222 M Street is is closed as a renovation goes into full swing. Members of the Washington Sports Club, located on an upper interior level of the mall structure, can still access the gym from a private entrance. Even as the mall undergoes extensive interior demolition, its owners are keeping mum about future tenants. "We are in advanced discussion with a number of retailers. My hope is in the near future we’ll make some announcements," said Scott Milsom, a representative for the mall's developers …

Georgetown Park Mall has yet to announce any new tenants.
The Georgetown Park Mall continues to generate interest among larger retailers, but Vornado Realty Trust has yet to announce any new tenants. Rumored potential tenants include Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor, T.J. Maxx and Michaels, according to The Washington Post. Bloomingdale's had previously expressed interest in opening a "Soho Concept" store in Georgetown prior to the mall's public auction several years ago that brought in Vornado Realty Trust and Angelo, Gordon & Co. Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans told The Post that Bloomingdale's would not require a tax incentive to come to Georgetown. “They were excited about going to Georgetown Park and didn’t need TIF money,” Evans told the Post. Most of the shops on the mall's interior have been …

The mall is clearing out, one by one.
Though mall manager Vornado Realty remains mum on its plans for the Georgetown Park mall, residents are grumbling and talking as their leases are not renewed and they receive notice to clear out by year's end. Even the Georgetown Angels, who set out to revamp the image of the mall, are all leaving. At the July Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting, representatives from Vornado talked about their plans to upgrade the appearance of the mall. They were specifically requesting to update the entrance on M Street near Dean & DelucaWe're not sure who it is, but in our entire thinking, we're looking at taking the entire lower level and turning into one retailer..." and that retailer will "need an M Street presence." DCMud added more fuel to the…

Furin's is closing, the Georgetown Park Mall is courting tenants and Tudor Place is still working towards a preservation plan.
The Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC2E) considered several large development projects Tuesday evening, but two smaller projects seemed to draw genuine interest from those in attendance. Not because of planned construction, but because of the implications of the requests. First, Furin's Bakery is closing. The owner, Bernie Furin, has decided to close his bakery, so he sold his building and the new owner is currently leasing it back to him until he retires. The new owners were before the ANC seeking exception from floor area ratio requirements so that the first and second floor can all be leased for non-residential space. Currently some 350 square feet are still required to be zoned as residential. Before evaluating the plan, …

The monthly Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting will take place Tuesday, July 5 because of the holiday Monday.
Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC2E) will meet Tuesday, July 5, at Georgetown Visitation. The evening will largely focus on plans for new construction and renovations, whether on roads, the Mall or local historic properties. The ANC will open up the public comment period for a discussion on a proposed bakery at 1227 34th St., currently the home of Govinda Gallery. More details to follow on this after the meeting. Yet another large construction project on local utilities will take the stage Tuesday as the commission discusses the DC Water Internal Joint Repairs Project. It is a two-phase rehabilitation of the 48-inch water main located on Canal Road NW and M Street NW. Then the commission will consider a request from Furin's Bakery at …

I was under the impression we were going to get a smaller Bloomingdales or a smaller nieman Marcus. Yes I do think that Marshall's will bring down the atmosphere of Georgetown. Michaels is an art store, kids always need art supplies. Home goods is wonderful for picking up a small something. I thing that a Target would have been a lit better than a Marshall's.   more ›
