Thousands of people will fill the streets of Georgetown for this popular fundraising event.
Looking for a way to try signature dishes from Georgetown's top restaurants, all in one place? An epicurean's dream, the 20th Annual Taste of Georgetown will be held June 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. "This is a really fun thing to do, it is a chance to taste a lot of different foods and there is something for everyone," said Gunther Stern, Executive Director of the Georgetown Ministry Center, which is the beneficiary of the event. The event, with expected attendance of over 12,000 people, will be held on Wisconsin Avenue between M and K Streets and features over 25 restaurants. The fast casual Southeast Asian restaurant has been anything but "fast" in opening its Georgetown location.
ShopHouse is now hoping to open in Georgetown early this summer. The the fast casual Southeast Asian-inspired restaurant will take over the former Furin's space at 2805 M St. NW. Furin's closed in July 2011 after 27 years there. "We don't have an exact date solidified yet, but shooting for early summer," according to a tweet sent to Patch from the official company Twitter account. ShopHouse initally hoped to open in Georgetown last summer. In September Architect Herb Heiserman of Streetsense told the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting that his client's "very aggressive" goal was to open by year's end. Restaurant chain has more than 30 locations in 13 states, but none in D.C., Maryland or Virginia.
Restaurant chain J. Alexander's is eying several D.C. area retail scenes for an expansion to the Washington metro area market, according to DCEater. Broker Bill Miller of Miller, Walker Retail Real Estate told DC Eater that J. Alexander's is looking at "the usual suspects," to include "the East End, downtown, Georgetown, Tysons Corner and Bethesda." According to DC Eater, the chain usually requires some 8,000 square feet of space. Miller's company has one such location listed in Georgetown at 1010 Wisconsin Ave. NW. (Though the entrance would actually be on K Street NW between Chadwicks and Cycle Life.) The chain, which bills itself as a "contemporary American restaurant," currently has locations in 13 states. Georgetown restaurants are serving up a variety of options with their restaurant week menus this summer. Choose from 15 Georgetown restaurants to enjoy prix-fixe menus for lunch, dinner or both. At Georgetown's newest addition, Bandolero, diners can enjoy a dinner of tomatillo gazpacho with marinated watermelon and orange, and suckling pig tacos with apple and habanero mustard, among other menu items. Make a lunch reservation at Cafe Milano to enjoy sauteed rockfish filet in an heirloom tomato emulsion with mint-scented haricot vert and a milk chocolate lime cremaux with brown sugar streusel. Lunch runs $20.12 and dinners are $35.12 for a three-course meal (excluding beverage, tax and gratuity).
