Georgetown Waterfront Ice Rink Opens

The "Winter on the Water" celebration will be Dec. 1.

The Georgetown waterfront ice rink is officially open for skaters. Clark Construction had been working to transform the Washington Harbour fountain since early October. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; noon to 10 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The rates are $9 for adults; $7 for children, seniors and military. Skate rentals are $5. The annual "Winter on the Water" celebration is set for Saturday, Dec. 1. It is a holiday celebration in conjunction with the Christmas Bazaar at the House of Sweden.

There are skate rentals! The rink costs are: $9 for adults, $7 for children, seniors and military members. Skate rental is $5. Washington Harbour Ice Rink Grand Opening Set for Dec. 1

Rink to open mid-November, but official celebration scheduled next month with Embassy of Sweden.

The Georgetown waterfront ice rink will take center stage Dec. 1 during a just announced "Winter on the Water" celebration. The event, from 4 to 7 p.m., will feature ice skating performances, a St. Lucia presentation and special food and beverages, among other entertainment. The "Winter on the Water" fete complements the Swedish Christmas Bazaar at the neighboring House of Sweden from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the same day. "The Swedish choir will present a St. Lucia procession from the bazaar into the Washington Harbour plaza at 5:15 p.m. then perform carols at Winter on the Water," according to a press release. New Washington Harbour Fountain Flowing Through October

The renovated fountains have jets that reach as high as 65 feet.

The new fountains at the Washington Harbour complex started flowing over Labor Day weekend. The renovated water feature will only flow until Oct. 1 this year to allow for construction of the ice rink in time for the winter season. In addition to center fountain jets that can reach up to 65 feet, the new fountain design also features shows with lights and music. According to Joshua Lynsen, a representative for the Washington Harbour, the hours are as follows: "Fountain shows start at 5 p.m. and occur every 30 minutes until 10 p.m. Shows can also be seen throughout the day on the hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shows done during the work week are done without music. Fountain shows last anywhere from five to 10 minutes and typically feature two …
