Leaving DC? Cheaper Gas, but More People Traveling

This holiday season, one in four people will leave the area by car.

More than 93 million people will go over the river and through the woods for Christmas and the New Year holiday, according to AAA—an increase of 1.6 percent over last year. “The year-end holiday season remains the least volatile of all travel holidays as Americans will not let economic conditions or high gas prices dictate if they go home for the holidays or kick off the New Year with a vacation,” said AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet in a press release. The 2012 year-end holiday travel season officially starts Saturday and continues through Tuesday, Jan. 1.
