Hoyas Men’s 2011-12 Basketball Schedule Announced

Facing Kansas in Maui, single road date against Syracuse, hosting defending national champion Syracuse among the highlights.

Georgetown men’s basketball program released the schedule for the 2011-12 season- one that is full of potential landmines for the youthful squad, but perhaps not as start-to-finish daunting as the previous season’s version. The highlights include another trip to the Pacific, renewing two local rivalries, but facing an arch enemy just once. And not locally to boot. The Hoyas, who returned last week from an adventurous exhibition tour through China, have 16 scheduled home games, starting with the season opener against Savannah State on Nov. 12. From there it’s the Maui Invitational, though the first contest against UNC Greensboro is on Nov. 14...also at the Verizon Center. The Hoyas five heralded freshman will get their first taste of …

Old Home Week at McDonough

As Georgetown University's Hoyas basketball team readies for China, some familiar faces help prep the team for a new season

It looks a bit like Old Home Week these days at McDonough Gym as the Georgetown Hoyas basketball team, prepares for its upcoming pre-season international trip to China.    First, Pete Carril, the legendary former Princeton coach who was John Thompsion III's coach in college is on the scene to serve as a sounding board for the current Hoya coach.   Second, two well-known former Hoya stars, Othella Harrington and Kevin Broadus, are back after several years serving as assistant coaches.   And, of course, Hall of Famer and radio personality John Thompson, JT III's dad, is always there to give some advice too, if needed. Controversial Kevin Broadus Back with Hoyas

Broadus will be a special assistant to Hoya coach John Thompson III.

Georgetown basketball coaching legend and sports talk radio personality John Thompson let the cat out of the bag on his popular ESPN-980 radio show Wednesday afternoon:   "Kevin Broadus is coming back," said the coach (father of Hoya coach John Thompson III), referring to the former Hoya star and controversial figure who was suspended at Binghamton after a series of major recruiting and academic violations compounded by the arrest of one of the key players at the upstate New York school last year.   It's true, Hoya fans. Georgetown announced that Broadus, as assistant coach for the Hoyas between 2004 and 2007 before taking the Binghamton job, will be a "special assistant" effective immediately.
