Did you see Georgetown business owners Philip Soriano and Pranav Vora during the Oscars Sunday? The duo behind menswear store Hugh & Crye, 3212 O St. NW, were not walking the red carpet, but their P Street store was featured in an American Express Shop Small Ad. The ad (see video above) played several times during the multi-hour awards show Sunday night. It features a variety of small businesses like an ice cream shop, a wine shop, a bridal salon and a few familiar places like Ben's Chili Bowl on U Street NW and, for Georgetowners, Hugh & Crye. ReadySetDC is hosting a fashion showroom at the Georgetown Powerhouse at 3255 Grace St. Thursday.
Power and fashion are two words easily bandied around about Georgetown, but this week to two will converge when ReadySetDC takes over the Georgetown Powerhouse for a fashion showroom. The event will feature local designers and fashion experts, including Georgetown's own Hugh & Crye (located on O Street). "Attendees will be able to watch, touch and feel, talk with the designers themselves and purchase the amazing garments and accessories on display," according to a press release about the event. The Powerhouse was selected as this year's venue as part of the Popularise.com initiative, which pairs empty retail with crowdsourced ideas for creative uses.
