1. Ice Skating Party to Benefit Concerts in the Park When/Where: From 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Harbour Ice Rink, 3050 K St. NW, and Tony & Joe's, 3000 K St. NW. Why Go: Get some exercise, spend some quality time with family and friends and help a good cause while you are at it. Proceeds from the skating party will support the Citizens Association of Georgetown's annual Concerts in the Park this summer, which is free and open to the public. Price: Tickets are $175 for three generations, $150 for 2 generations, $125 for a couple and $65 for one. 2. Seasonal Ice Skating in D.C. and Beyond

Ice rinks pop up throughout the region for the holidays and winter months.

When temperatures drop, steaming cups of hot chocolate, cozy sweaters and, of course, outdoor ice skating come to mind. The D.C. area has a variety of options for ice skating, including two new rinks arriving just in time for the 2012-2013 winter season.

Ice Skating Comes to Georgetown in November

Georgetown's Washington Harbour goes from "three seasons to four" as work on winter skating rink begins.

The Georgetown Washington Harbour fountain went dry on Oct. 1 to allow construction of the Washington Harbour outdoor ice rink on the Potomac River waterfront to commence. It should be ready just in time for the winter season. “It’s essentially going to be the Rockefeller of Washington,” said Dean Cibel, joint owner of Tony and Joe’s and Nick’s Riverside Grill, in regards to the rink’s size, which is larger than the rinks at Rockefeller Center in New York City and National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden in Washington. The newly renovated fountain at Washington Harbour was constructed to allow for conversion into an 11,800-square-foot ice rink from November to March, as a part of the Washington Harbour revitalization.
