'Rush Plus' Begins Today on Metro

'Rush Plus' expands service during rush hour

Metro rolls out its new rush hour program, "Rush Plus," today during rush hours on the Green, Yellow, Blue and Orange lines. For Georgetowners who rely on the Blue and Orange Lines, these changes will mean more frequent trains for Orange Line riders and longer waits for Blue Line customers. Rush Plus "is designed to ease crowding, improve the commuting experience for Metrorail riders on the Orange, Blue, Green and Yellow lines, and prepare for the future Silver Line," according to the metro press release about the changes. Expanded service will result in 18 new Orange Line trains during rush hour. The increased service will impact 21 stations, to include Foggy Bottom and Rosslyn. Taking the Metro to get around this weekend? Here’s what to expect. This marks the final weekend of track work for the year. There will be no scheduled track work during the Christmas or New Year's holiday weekends. Red Line The most significant work of the weekend will take place on the Red Line, where crews will advance efforts to stabilize a water main that runs through the mezzanine level of Farragut North Station. The heavy construction work requires that one Red Line track be taken out of service between Dupont Circle and Judiciary Square for the safety of workers and customers. Orange Line Disruptions Coming MLK Weekend

No Orange or Blue Line trains will run between Rosslyn and Farragut West Stations. Single track between East and West Falls Church.

Metrorail has seized the opportunity of a federal holiday weekend to make repairs to the Orange and Blue line tracks between Rosslyn and Farragut West stations. On Martin Luther King weekend, WMATA will ferry its riders across the Potomac on shuttle buses. "Customers should add an extra 40 minutes to travel through the impacted area," reads the press release. Foggy Bottom station will be closed entirely. The closure will start on Friday, Jan. 14 at 10pm and last until the tunnel reopens for the first train the following Tuesday morning. Metro plans to station extra employees at Rosslyn and Farragut West to help guide riders to shuttles.
