The Stoddert Elementary community gathered for the annual school celebration.
Hundreds of parents and kids, school and community members filled Stoddert Elementary's fields for the Glover Park school's annual Fall Festival on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Classrooms sponsored games like pumpkin bowling and a duck pond. There were activities like a moon bounce, spin art, face painting and pumpkin painting. The nearby Whole Foods donated the pumpkins. In addition to games and activities there were dining options from local eateries Rockland's and Armand's and music to make the day feel truly festive. Over the past several weeks parents donated old, gently used costumes for a Halloween costume “store.” Volunteers mended and washed costumes that could be purchased for "new to you" gear for this year's Halloween. The PTA is organizing the meeting for parents and the interim principal, Patricia Pride.
Wednesday evening Stoddert Elementary parents will have a chance to meet the interim principal for the 2012-2013 school year, Patricia Pride. Pride was appointed by Chancellor Kaya Henderson, who notified parents July 12. She will take over for departing principal Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert. Pride comes to Stoddert after having spent the past two years serving as an interim principal at Jefferson Middle School in Southwest D.C. She also served as an assistant principal at Roosevelt Senior High School. Interim Principal Patricia Pride sent her son to kindergarten and first grade at the Glover Park School.
Last week Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced in a letter to parents that Stoddert Elementary would have an interim principal for the 2012-2013 school year, Patricia Pride. In an email to Patch, Pride wrote that she remembers sending her son on a bus to kindergarten and first grade at Stoddert Elementary from their post at Bolling Airforce Base. Below is an excerpt from the note she wrote to Patch: "A short little note, my oldest son who graduated from high school this year was on the first bus to Stoddert from Bolling AFB in 1999 for Kindergarten, and then 1st grade. She will serve for the 2012-2013 school year because Principal Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert is resigning.
Patricia Pride will serve as interim principal at Stoddert Elementary for the 2012-2013 school year, Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced in a letter to parents Thursday. The announcement comes two days after Henderson put a stop to the principal selection process already underway. Henderson wrote that the short period of time in which to find an appropriate candidate prompted her decision. Principal Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert announced June 21 that she would be leaving her role at Stoddert effective Aug. 3 to help care for the family of her deceased daughter in Wisconsin.
