Politics & Prose Publishes 1st Anthology, 'District Lines'

The anthology features the work of nearly 50 DC-area writers.

The work of close to 50 local writers is featured in a new anthology—District Lines—published by Chevy Chase independent bookstore, Politics & Prose. Printed on Politics & Prose’s very own book-printing machine, District Lines contains essays, short fiction, poems, sketches and photography "on quirky and serious subjects ranging from a sighting of Effi Barry on a Metro bus to an August night on the Q Street Bridge to hotcakes at the Florida Avenue Grill to an ode to the Dupont Circle metro escalator," according to a news statement from the bookstore. Politics & Prose Joins World Book Night Tuesday

On World Book Night, more than half a million books will be given away across the country. Local independent bookstore Politics & Prose is taking part in this ambitious endeavor.

World Book Night is Tuesday, April 23, and more than half a million books will be given away, free-of-charge, across the country by more than 25,000 volunteers, according to a news release from independent Chevy Chase, DC, bookstore Politics & Prose Bookstore.  For the second year, Politics & Prose will participate in World Book Night, and nearly 90 book givers will be picking up specially printed paperback books from Politics & Prose to give away to people in their communities on Tuesday night. 'Twilight' Author to Visit Politics & Prose

Stephenie Meyer's only DC stop on her nation-wide tour will be at the famed Chevy Chase, DC, independent bookstore Politics & Prose.

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer will visit Chevy Chase's famed independent bookstore Politics & Prose (5015 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC) from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21. She'll be joined by two actors from The Host (the film adaptation based on her novel of the same name): Max Irons (son of Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons) and Jake Abel (I am Number Four, The Lovely Bones). "It’s part of our mission as [Washington, DC's] largest independent bookstore to bring in a wide range of authors. Politics & Prose Founder Retires

Barbara Meade will retire from Politics & Prose, the store she helped create with Carla Cohen 29 years ago.

Barbara Meade retired Dec. 31 from Politics and Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC, the store she founded with Carla Cohen in 1984 and nurtured for 29 years. According to a history of the store posted on its website, Cohen died in October 2010. In June 2011 Meade sold the business to Bradley Graham and Lissa Muscatine and she stayed on in an advisory role until December. "She will remain a vital part of the heart and soul of Politics & Prose and will continue to be admired and appreciated for the many ways in which she has influenced our community," according to a press release. Publish Your Opus at Politics and Prose

The legendary Chevy Chase, DC, independent bookstore and coffeehouse takes bookselling to a whole new level—letting patrons publish their own manuscripts at a reasonable price.

For anyone who's ever dreamed of publishing a book some day, that day has arrived. Starting Thursday, Nov. 10 all it takes is a trip to Politics and Prose with a copy of your manuscript (saved to a thumbdrive or CD) in hand, and you, too, can be a published author in about 10 minutes. (One caveat: You have to write the manuscript first.) The famed Politics and Prose bookstore at 5015 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC, has been a Chevy Chase institution for over a quarter of a century. I believe so, but it might not be quite what you're looking for. The covers will be paper-back, and the pages can be made out of only two kinds of pages—cream stock paper or white stock paper—no glossy paper like the kind we see in photography books. Basically, if you can get your photos into a manuscript form in a PDF, you upload the PDF to Opus, and Opus prints it out.   more ›
