DC Snow Team Prepares for Wintry Mix

NWS says DC region could get 1-2 inches of snow overnight.

Updated 7:15 p.m. The DC Snow Team will deploy approximately 200 plows tonight to preempt the predicted wintry mix. Crews will be on their routes by 10:30 p.m to begin the battle against rain mixing with sleet and snow set to start sometime between 9 and 11 p.m.  Temperatures are expected to drop quickly overnight. Snow is now expected to accumulate between two and five inches before ending between 8 and 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Update: A Possible 5-10 Inches of Snow in DC Region

NWS: ‘Too early to talk about road conditions’

Updated 2:05 p.m. The snowfall expected Wednesday evening came early. Snow started falling across DC and northern Virginia around 5 a.m. Though original estimate were calling for four to six inches of snow, new estimates from the NWS suggest residents should expect accumulations of five to 10 inches of snow. “The main course is going to come this afternoon,” said Andy Woodcock, a meteorologist with NWS. “It will be heaviest by the afternoon through midnight.” Many schools in Northern VA canceled all classes and after school events Wednesday.
