Arcuri Eying Early June Opening The American-Italian restaurant will open at 2400 Wisconsin Ave. NW, formerly home to Kavanagh's Pizza Pub, and hopes to open on early June. Chainsaw Cuts Away 220-Year-Old Tree in Georgetown An American white oak tree, which may have be original to a Georgetown estate with ties to George Washington himself, had to be cut down this week on the Tudor Place estate. A look at a few of the most notable stories this week on Georgetown Patch.
The story of Max's Best Ice Cream losing its lease and the later news that Rocklands Barbeque would be expanding into Max's space dominated the conversation on Patch and on neighborhood listservs this week. First we learned over the weekend that Max Keshani receive a notice of termination for his lease at 2416 Wisconsin Ave. NW in Glover Park. Max has been serving homemade ice cream to the Glover Park community for 20 years. Shortly thereafter we learned that Max's neighboring business, another community favorite, Rocklands Barbeque, would be taking over Max's space. The ensuing furor and debate continues as neighbors offer a range of opinions, from wanting to boycott Rocklands to villifying the landlord to accepting that's how capitalism…

The Graham Hotel Now Open in Georgetown Formerly the Hotel Monticello, The Graham hotel opened April 15 at 1075 Thomas Jefferson St. NW. The boutique hotel features a rooftop bar and a new restaurant. Read more. Mara Takes Georgetown, Glover Park, Bonds Wins DC Georgetown and Glover Park voters favored Republican Patrick Mara, followed closely by Democrat Elissa Silverman in the special election, but interim Councilwoman Anita Bonds, also a Democrat, won the night in DC. In Georgetown and Glover Park, turnout was low throughout the day. Less than 10 percent of registered DC voters voted in the election, according to unofficial numbers. Whole Foods Reopens After Resolving 'Imminent Health Hazard' The Glover Park Whole Foods was in hot water for an "imminent health hazard," which closed the store for about two hours Tuesday afternoon. A DC health inspector closed the store because a hot water tank was not heated to the appropriate temperature. Read more. Man Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault and Kidnapping in Georgetown Police arrested a man Monday and charged him with a kidnapping and attempted sex assault in connection with an incident in the 2600 block of O Street NW in Georgetown, near Rose Park. Neighbors Object to 7-Eleven on Wisconsin Avenue 7-Eleven has set its sights on opening a second Georgetown location, this time at 1344 Wisconsin Ave. NW, but some neighbors are unhappy with the move and design. Architect David Bell, who owns several properties around the corner from the shop, said 7-Eleven would "add nothing to the community" and its presence would be "a disaster." Read more.
