Georgetown's small businesses compete with the malls and chain stores in their own way.
I was determined to get the best deals on Book Hill between 9 and 10 a.m. on Black Friday. There may not be as many stores here, but 25 to 30% off throughout the store is a great bargain. At 9 a.m. I was outside Sassanova when they propped open the door. But I was not the first customer. The store was offering great deals Friday morning: 30% off from 9 to 10 a.m., 25% off 10 to 11 a.m., 20% off starting at 11 a.m. and there is already one customer. Co-owner, Sarah Cannova, said she hoped for a "second bump" after customers go to the early morning sales. Patch is talking to small businesses in Georgetown this week as we gear up for Small Business Saturday. We received these answers from Urban Chic, on behalf of owner Lindsay Buscher. Models hit the runway on Bethesda Lane Friday to show off looks from local retailers.
Friday's runway show on Bethesda Lane was a chance for local retailers to show off ther latest looks. It was also one of the highlights of The Front Row, an annual, weekend-long event that highlights fashion. Patch chatted with local retailers who took part in the show, including Urban Chic and Sassanova, about their participation in the event this year.

At the opening day of Urban Chic's annual trunk sale, shoppers browsed this year's Soshanna spring fashions available at a 15 percent discount
Every spring, Georgetown boutique Urban Chic hosts a trunk show, featuring fashions from a selected designer. With 70 degree weather outside and champagne, cupcakes and cutting edge fashions at 15 percent off in-store, Urban Chic saw a steady flow of customers this morning. The sale runs until 8 p.m., so if you're looking for a new dress at a discount it might be worth stopping by. Dresses are still pricy, but if you're going to buy designer at least today you'll get a discount.
