Mall landlords unwilling to confirm DMV's return to Georgetown Park.
Though city leaders have promised that the Department of Motor Vehicles will return to Georgetown, a representative for the Georgetown Park Mall made the agency's seem return a bit less certain. Scott Milsom, speaking for Georgetown Park Mall's landlords Vornado Realty Trust, told the Advisory Neighborhood Commission at a September meeting, that negotiations with the DMV were "ongoing." Milsom said "nothing has been finalized" and that it was his understanding that the DMV would prefer to be near a metro stop. Milsom's comments came as a surprise. At the Citizens Association of Georgetown annual meeting in May, Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans told the community that the DMV would return to Georgetown Park. Evans said that Mayor Vincent Gray "…

The Shops at Georgetown Park received permits for interior structural work.
Though you might not be able to tell when you pass by on M Street, the Shops at Georgetown Park will be getting a renovation over the next few months. Vornado Realty Trust and Angelo Gordon & Co. received permits last week for interior non-structural demolition, as first reported in the Washington Business Journal. Most of the shops on the mall's interior have been asked to vacate, leaving the space dim and quiet since most departed in late 2011, early 2012. The work will take place on both the parking garage and the mall itself. There will be renovations in the retail space at the C&O Canal level, Wisconsin Avenue level, and M Street level. All work permitted at this point is for the interior. Last year the Georgetown Advisory …

The mall is clearing out, one by one.
Though mall manager Vornado Realty remains mum on its plans for the Georgetown Park mall, residents are grumbling and talking as their leases are not renewed and they receive notice to clear out by year's end. Even the Georgetown Angels, who set out to revamp the image of the mall, are all leaving. At the July Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting, representatives from Vornado talked about their plans to upgrade the appearance of the mall. They were specifically requesting to update the entrance on M Street near Dean & DelucaWe're not sure who it is, but in our entire thinking, we're looking at taking the entire lower level and turning into one retailer..." and that retailer will "need an M Street presence." DCMud added more fuel to the…

After being told its lease would end in 60 days, the National Pinball Museum in Georgetown is looking for a new location and is happy to accept private donations.
As previously reported, the National Pinball Museum (NPM), which opened in the Georgetown Park Mall in December 2010, must now leave its home in the next 60 days. NPM is now searching for a new home and asking the public for any help people or businesses can provide. The museum received a letter May 18 from the mall owner Vornado Realty telling the non-profit that its lease would expire in 60 days. The move, though a surprise to the museum, was within the legal boundaries of its lease. When Vornado took over ownership of the mall, the tenants signed a lease that stipulated that the mall ownership could revoke a license agreement at any time as long as they are given 60 days notice, according to said Tiffani Huskey, the director of …

Right now it looks like it's mostly stores on the interior of the mall on the lower levels. We will keep you posted if we hear about any other retailers moving out!   more ›
