Georgetown Bowling Alley Receives Zoning Approval

The condominium association dropped its opposition after reaching an agreement with the owners.

The Georgetown Park Mall is one big step closer to having a Pinstripes Bowling Alley after the Board of Zoning Adjustment unanimously approved a special exception application Tuesday. Pinstripes, a bowling alley cum bocce courts, restaurant and private event facility, will make Georgetown its first location in the DC area. The space on two levels in the Georgeotwnpark Mall will include 28,000 square feet on the bowling level. Earlier in January the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) opposed the application, citing a lack of agreement about noise and other concerns between the Georgetown Park Condominium Owners Association and the bowling alley owners.  Interested in getting Georgetown Patch directly into your inbox each …

Georgetown ANC Opposes Bowling Alley for Mall

Concerns over noise from a proposed bowling alley and restaurant dominated discussions Wednesday.

Georgetown's Advisory Neighborhood Commission unanimously opposed the application of Pinstripes to open a bowling alley in the Georgetown Park Mall until the business and the residents of the condos in the building reach an agreement on noise and other concerns. "The risks are simply too great that objectionable impacts will occur from the bowling operations, the intended special events for very large numbers of people and the proposed inclusion of outdoor activity space," according to the motion passed by the ANC Wednesday. The condo board is still negotiating with the mall owner Vornado and the applicant Pinstripes over noise and vibration control from the bowling alley. The condo board has decided to hire a third-party sound consultant …

Georgetown Bowling Alley Application Under Consideration

The bowling alley would be located in the Georgetown Park Mall.

The Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) will consider an application for a bowling alley in the Georgetown Park Mall. The bowling alley needs a special exception to be permitted in the mall. Earlier this fall the mall owners and Pinstripes, a chain of bolwing alleys and resturants, filed an application with the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) to allow the new amenity to occupy a large portion of the mall, currently under renovation. Pinstripes' locations in Chicago and Minneapolis are "distinctive 40,000 square foot dining and entertainment venues feature a bistro with exceptional Italian/American cuisine and wine; bowling and bocce," according to the company website. The ANC will review the application and send its …

Could a Bowling Alley be Good for Georgetown?

A bowling alley could be coming to the Georgetown Park Mall.

A bowling alley and restaurant, Pinstripes, could be a tenant at the Georgetown Park Mall, according to DCist. The mall owners and the chain have filed an application with the D.C Board of Zoning Adjustment to allow the new amenity to occupy a large chunk of the mall, currently under renovation.  According to DCist: "The plans envision a restaurant on the mall's first level—fronting Wisconsin Avenue—that seats 100, the 12 bowling lanes and three bocce courts. A second floor would include banquet rooms and two more bocce courts. Each game at Pinstripes' other locations cost $5 not including the $4 for shoes, while entrees range from $17 to $27." Though, DCist cites several noise-concerned condo owners who live above the mall, Georgetown …
