Gosh, I can't believe it was 5 years ago. I remember it vividly. My then 2-year-old and my husband and I were about to take a walk to the zoo. We were on the sidewalk in front of my shop (Proper Topper, Georgetown location, now gone, but then next to Marvelous Market). We pushed her stroller up the hill to see what was happening, passing water flowing down from Reservoir Rd. As we neared Book Hill, we saw flames leaping from the roof, water shooting from fire trucks, and heroic Library staff rushing paintings and treasures out of the building. For days and weeks afterward, my daughter would talk about what she saw and worry about what would happen to the Library, the buliding she visited more often at that pre-school age than any other.
