I watched the trailer for "Dark Skies," and it seems to be an unfortunate mash-up of "Poltergeist" and "Close Encounters."

A local TV reporter asked Diana Medley if she thought Gay people had a purpose in life. Her response was, "No I honestly don't. Sorry, but I don't. I don't understand it." And this woman is a public school teacher? A SPECIAL ED teacher? She is an embarrassment to the teaching profession. Anyone who wonders why so many Gay young people end up taking their own lives need to look no further than Ms. Medley.

  • On the article Why Do Snowstorms Have Names Now?

The Weather Channel really ought to end this pointless publicity stunt of naming winter storms. What gives them the right to do this? Even the National Weather Service had this to say: "The National Weather Service does not name winter storms because a winter storm's impact can vary from one location to another, and storms can weaken and redevelop, making it difficult to define where one ends and another begins."

Of course TWC seems to have gone way downhill ever since they were purchased by NBC. I used to turn on TWC first thing in the morning, but now Al Roker just makes me nauseous with all his clowning and self-promotion. Oh LOOK! Al's lost some more weight! It's Al's birthday! Al's on the cover of "Parade" magazine! Al's written a new book! Al's run another marathon! Hooray for Al!

To all the people who fear that marriage equality for Gay couples will mean their churches will be "forced" to provide weddings for those couples, here are some things to remember:

1: None of the legal benefits of marriage come from the church, they come from government.

2: Couples have never needed a church's approval to obtain a marriage license.

3: Churches will never be compelled to provide ceremonies for Gay couples, any more than they are compelled to provide ceremonies for Atheist or Jewish or Muslim couples.

4: While most churches will probably be unwilling to cater to Gay couples, there are plenty of churches that are more welcoming. On the happiest day of their lives, no Gay couple will be interested in having a wedding in a place where they are met with hostility. Fortunately the Episcopal Church welcomes Gay couples.

I promise you with absolute, 100% certainty that there will be no “End Times.” But even if the Apocalypse was at hand, why should it worry you? I have no doubt you are confident of your own spiritual redemption. If you believe in a “Rapture,” you will be beamed up to Heaven before anything really bad happens, and once you are there, you will have no remorse for those who are “Left Behind.” You should be THRILLED.

It's one thing to say you support "traditional marriage." After all, who DOESN'T? I have lots of Straight (i.e. heterosexual) friends, some married and some single, and if any of the singles finds a compatible person of the opposite sex to marry and make a solemn commitment to, no one will be happier than me.

But it is quite another thing to donate millions of dollars per year in company profits to organizations who work specifically to deny law-abiding, taxpaying Gay couples the same legal benefits and protections that Straight couples have always taken for granted.

I know a lot of people love the food at Chick-fil-A, but they also support their Gay friends, family members and co-workers, so much so that they have chosen to no longer eat there.

People have every right to throw their money at Chick-fil-A if they want, but they shouldn't also pretend that they support their Gay friends.

  • On the article Poll: Do you Support Stricter Gun Control Laws?

    Chuck Anziulewicz

Dudley Brown is the executive director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, which advocates for firearms owners’ rights. This is what he had to say: “We’re different than other cultures. We DO allow Americans to possess the accoutrements that our military generally has.”

"Accoutrements." What a pleasant way of describing the weapons and ammunition and body armor that James Holmes had accumulated over a period of a few months.

Doesn’t ANYONE find this just a bit disturbing?

Someone who wants to own a handgun for the protection of his family and property, and/or a rifle to go hunting with, who is also willing to go through background checks and reasonable registration requirements? THAT’S what I would call a responsible gun owner.

But to suggest that the Second Amendment guarantees that anyone can have an arsenal, stocked with as many guns as he wants, of any type of gun and ammunition that he wants, just because it’s his HOBBY? That’s just nuts.

All can say is, if this is the way it's going to be, then we should simply dispense with the hand-wringing when the next massacre takes place. James Holmes did not have a criminal record before he opened fire on a crowded theater. He went about accumulating his weapons and "accoutrements" the same way gun hobbyists everywhere do. We might as well get used to it, because no one has the guts to stand up to the NRA.

  • On the article Rick Warren Says Church Must Stand Ground Against Gay Marriage

    Chuck Anziulewicz

Whether the church wants to stand against marriage equality for Gay couples is irrelevant. The church does not "own" marriage. None of the legal benefits and protections of marriage come from the church, they come from the government. But if it'll make Rick Warren feel any better, no one will ever force him to marry another man, attend a Gay wedding, or conduct a ceremony for a Gay couple.

That having been said, I have a BIG problem with Rick Warren suggesting that the government needs to act on behalf of the church. It is not the government's job to make things "sacred," nor is it the government's business to codify Rick Warren's personal religious beliefs into public policy. Among people of faith there is no one, monolithic belief about marriage equality for Gay couples.

  • On the article POLL: Should Businesses Have The Right To Refuse Gay Couples?

    Chuck Anziulewicz

So if a business owner, an employee or anyone else felt providing the services related to a marriage or its celebration believes that non-Christians are going to Hell, and that God does not honor the marriages of Muslim or Jewish or Atheist couples, will this measure allow them refuse to provide accommodations, goods or services to THOSE couples also?

Makes we wonder why we even have civil rights laws to begin with!
