New Thai Restaurant Plans December Opening on M Street

I-Thai and Sushi Bar will take over 3003 M St. NW.

I-Thai and Sushi Bar plans to open an authentic Thai restaurant and sushi bar at 3003 M St. NW, the former home of Garrett's.

The team behind the Georgetown location opened their first local Thai restaurant, Thai Deelish, on Oct. 23, 2010 in Ashburn, Va. Last December they opened I-Thai Restaurant & Bar in the Tyson's Corner area of Virginia.

Next stop? M Street.

The owners want to bring a "real Classic Thai Menu" to Georgetown, explained owner Ann Chevasuttho in an email to Patch.

"We would like to serve the Georgetown neighbor and neighbor close by to try our ingredient[s] which we are proud to present to them," she wrote.

Chevasuttho said many Thai restaurants do not include more traditional items on their menus because the dishes can be more complicated and time-consuming to make and because they tend to be spicy for the American palate.

The new M Street Thai restaurant will be on two floors, featuring two full bars and two sushi bars.

The first floor will be "modern" and "cozy" explained Chevasuttho.

The plan for the second floor is to divide it into three dining areas with different themes in each room. One room will be the sun room featuring Thai orchids, a second will feature Asian elephants and another the third will be "under the sea."

Chevasuttho hopes the rooms could be used for special events.

Since there's a bit of a wait until December, Chevasuttho suggests stopping by the Ashburn or Tysons Corner locations to see what they have in store for Georgetown.
