Put this one in the category of ... What the what?

A man dressed as Santa Claus — one of his helpers — was shot in the back with a pellet gun Monday while delivering toys in Southeast Washington, DC.

According to an ABC7 photographer who was interviewing the victim at the time of the shooting, the man in the Santa suit was struck in his upper back. He was transported to a nearby hospital with the pellet still lodged in his shoulder.

The toys were being handed out at the 22nd annual Barry Farm toy drive, according to WUSA9. Volunteers stepped in to continue the toy giveaway, the station reported.
