Raccoon Bites Man in Georgetown, Evades Capture

The incident happened Saturday near Montrose Park in Georgetown.

A raccoon bit a man in Georgetown Saturday morning on 29th Street between Q and R streets NW, near Montrose Park. The raccoon was still on the loose Sunday afternoon.

Animal Control was called Saturday, but officers were unable to capture the raccoon.

Animal Control Dispatcher Derrick Washington told Patch that he received several worried calls from residents about the incident.

Though there were reports on the neighborhood listserv that the raccoon was rabid, Washington said officers had not confirmed that the animal had rabies.

However, he said the raccoon exhibited behavior often associated with rabies.
