Rash of Garage Burglaries Cease Following Arrest

A man arrested on other charges was linked to several Georgetown burglaries.

The string of garage burglaries in Georgetown summer recently stopped and police believe that is because of an arrest made in another police District for unrelated charges.

Last month Lt. John Hedgecock told the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) that between June 1 and early September there were 25 burglaries in Georgetown, the majority of which targeted garages. That marked a 39 percent increase in burglaries compared to the previous year.

At Monday's ANC meeting Hedgecock brought the news that on Sept. 9 police arrested a man on unrelated charges and detectives were later able to link a bike in his possession to some of the Georgetown burglaries.

Hedgecock said the case is still pending and there is still further investigation to be done.

"Since his arrest we have not had another burglary," he added. "You get my point."
